Luftwaffe Panavia Tornado IDS - WTD61, Manching "Tornado 50 Years" - 43+97
On August 14th, 1974 the Panavia Tornado multi-role combat aircraft took off at Manching, Germany for its first flight. 50 years later, the aircraft is still operational with the Air Forces of Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia. To celebrate the 50th anniversary, The German Air Force’s Technical and Airworthiness Center for Aircraft painted one of their jets in reminiscence of the first prototype and included style elements of the prototype and pre-series aircraft that were used for flight testing, also at Manching, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The most prominent detail is the Panavia Tornado roundel on its tail, which combines the roundels of the consortium’s partner nations Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
